Perfume Review: Jimmy Choo by Jimmy Choo

I first smelled the new Jimmy Choo fragrance about 3 months ago when it had just been launched in Sephora and back then, I wasn't very sure about it. I thought it was nice, but I didn't really feel the urge to buy it. I retested it again several times whenever I stopped by Sephora and it really grew on me, until one day when I decided I do like it and I want to get a bottle. I've been using it ever since. I think my favorite thing about it is the way it lingers on my clothes, my scarf and my jacket smell delicious.

The fragrance opens with a touch of green notes (probably the bamboo listed in the top notes), but they are short-lived and dissipate in a few seconds on my skin. Enter the fruity notes, namely the pear which luckily is not loud on me. I don't enjoy a fruity overdose when it comes to perfumes, I don't like smelling like a fruit salad, so I'm very picky about what specific fruit I like in my fragrances and the dosage. I absolutely enjoy eating all sorts of fruit, tropical or not, and I love the way my kitchen smells right after I prepare a fresh fruit salad, but I don't like my perfumes to smell like that, if it makes any sense.

I don't get a lot of fruity notes in this one, just a soft pear and teeny tiny bit of orange, and I'm perfectly fine with both. It then melts into the middle and base notes: orchid, sweet toffee caramel and patchouli. Patchouli can be a difficult note, especially if it's harsh, overdone, but in this fragrance I like it, it doesn't bother me at all. I guess I'm lucky with this fragrance, my skin tolerates it so well, it's nicely balanced and it just ends up smelling...yummy! Make no mistake, it is sweet and strong, but I don't mind either of those, and frankly, I've smelled stronger perfumes than this.

Don't expect anything groundbreaking though, it's not an unique fragrance. The formula has been used many times before: fruits, flowers, sweet notes, over a patchouli base. Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, Gucci by Gucci are all in the same category, just to name a few. I read and heard about Jimmy Choo being compared to Flowerbomb many times (because of the resembling bottle as well), but on my skin it's not similar to Flowerbomb. However, I can definitely see where the comparison is coming from and I say it's in the same vibe as Flowerbomb. Not similar, but in the same vibe, so if you like the fragrances mentioned above, give Jimmy Choo a try. The lasting power is very good. It is available in 40 ml, 60 ml and 100 ml bottles Eau de Parfum, plus shower gel and body lotion.

The design of the bottle was inspired by Murano glass and the campaign is fronted by Jimmy Choo's Tamara Mellon herself.

In Romania, you can find the Jimmy Choo fragrance only at Sephora (it is exclusive to them). In the US, you can also find it at Saks. In the UK, try Harrods, Selfridges and Boots. In other European countries, try Sephora and Douglas.

Review based on bottle purchased by me.

  1. I feel like I *shouldn't* like Jimmy Choo perfume (based on my current preferences), but I do, and I think I know why. Thierry Mugler's Angel (and all of the flankers, including the A*Mens) give me a headache, and I've always resented that, because I appreciate the interesting facets about the perfume. Jimmy Choo is like a wearable version of Angel for me, it's true that it's not groundbreaking in the least, but it smells darn good. At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

  2. I absolutely agree, if it smells good and you enjoy it, that's all that matters. I always say :"wear whatever makes you happy".
