Gucci Museum Opens in Italy

Gucci celebrated its 90th birthday by inaugurating a museum in Florence, Italy, the brand's birthplace. "The intent is to tell our story and make it visible for everyone, doing something with and for this city," said Gucci president and chief executive office Patrizio di Marco. The museum is "an homage to the city. Although Gucci is a truly international company, we are a Florentine success story."

"This is so important for the brand because it’s not just about bags and shoes but history and Italy," said François-Henri Pinault, head of the luxury conglomerate PPR, which owns Gucci. “What makes a luxury brand is a combination of history and craftsmanship, design, and materials. Gucci is a part of Italian history. It was important to make a real statement.”
